John Pieters, CPA

Bio: John originally is from Michigan and received his B.A. in accounting from Michigan State University. Upon graduation, he worked in the audit department for Ernst and Young, LLP in Detroit, Michigan, and received his CPA certification. Eager to escape the Michigan winters, John moved to San Diego in 1998 and worked for Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) in the corporate financial reporting group. He left SAIC to join inCode Telecom Group, a San Diego-based telecommunications start-up company, where he was responsible for operational accounting and financial statement reporting.

In 2002, John returned to public accounting in his home state of Michigan, working for Latchaw and Company CPA, PC in Charlotte. Drawn to the sun once more, John returned to San Diego in 2003 and joined Jeanne Max & Associates. In 2008, John was promoted to Principal, and the name of the firm was changed to Max and Pieters APC to reflect this change.

John is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the California Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants. He currently provides seminars to several local organizations regarding individual and business tax concepts and is active in the San Diego Meals-on-Wheels organization.

In his spare time, John enjoys playing sports, traveling back to Michigan to visit family in warmer months, and rooting for the Michigan State football and basketball teams.
